Pastured Chicken and Duck Eggs
Buffalo Valley Pastures is happy to provide our customers with high quality, nutritious and delicious chicken and duck eggs!
Our chicken and duck eggs are one of our most popular sellers. Customers compliment the color, texture and taste of our eggs. They claim that they can’t find eggs like ours anywhere else. The health and diet of the chickens and ducks is the reason for these stellar eggs.
It is simple, healthy chickens and ducks will produce nutritious eggs.
Our layer chickens and ducks live outdoors on chemical-free pasture. The pasture is where they forage for food such as seeds, worms and insects. It is also where they get plenty of fresh air and exercise. This keeps them healthy and eliminates the need for antibiotics and other pharmaceutical drugs, which we do not use. We also do not use hormones. The chickens' diets are free from corn and soy. Most corn and soy in the USA are sprayed heavily with Glyphosate and are GMO.
There are a few hallmarks of a healthy egg that you can easily recognize.
One way to tell is the color of the yolk. A nutritious egg will have a deep orange color. However, do not be deceived, commercial chicken feeds can add colorants such as Canthaxanthin or Apo-ester to achieve a desired color. Simple, natural things like turmeric, marigold and paprika can also change the color. Unfortunately, this is not the best way to tell the nutritional value of an egg. We do not use any colorants in our feed.
Another sign of a good quality egg is a strong shell. The strength of a shell has to do with the calcium that a chicken has in their diet. If the chickens do not have enough calcium, they can lay eggs that are squishy or don’t have a shell at all. The color of the shell itself does not tell you anything about the health of the egg or chickens.
The texture of the egg is another sign. When the shell is broken, the white of the egg should cling tightly to the shell. Egg whites should be thick, firm and gelatinous. This is a good indication that the egg is fresh.
Did you know that the chicken eggs we sell are fertilized?
Our hens have been in contact with a rooster which allows the sperm to fertilize the egg. Don’t worry! You will never find a baby chick inside our eggs. What you will find is a germ spot that contains the female and male cells. Fertilized eggs are perfectly safe to eat.
These little eggs are packed with nutrition!

Many people don't realize that the FDA requires butchers to spray raw meat with citric acid to slow the growth of bacteria on meat that naturally occurs. The citric used does not come from natural citrus fruits. Instead, it is manufactured using a fermentation process that includes a mold that eats the sugar of corn. Citric acid is the byproduct of the fermentation process. Instead of citric acid, our FDA approved butcher uses an organic apple cider vinegar and water spray.
The diet of the animals contains zero corn.
