PASTURED CHICKEN
Buffalo Valley Pastures believes in providing our customers with the highest quality meats possible. That is why we raise pastured chicken. Our chickens are kept on pasture and moved twice a day in a mobile shelter. They are free to eat what they naturally enjoy from the pasture, such as bugs, seeds, worms and greens. Our chickens are supplemented daily with a non-gmo, organic corn feed. The pasture where our chickens live and eat is never exposed to chemicals such as pesticides herbicides, fungicides or fertilizers. They get plenty of fresh air and space to move around. They are never given hormones or antibiotics.
Our pastured chicken far exceeds the nutrition, flavor and texture of conventionally raised chicken. Conventionally raised chickens are commonly fed a chemically sprayed soy and/or grain diet and live in crowded and dirty living conditions. These living conditions often times produce unhealthy animals that require pharmaceuticals. Even chicken from the supermarkets labeled as 'free-range' or 'cage-free' never see the outdoors.
Another thing that is not widely known, is that meat is sprayed with ammonium hydroxide or citric acid after butchering. This is to protect the color and flavor of the meat during storage. This is required by the FDA. We do not use these substances to treat our meat. Instead, we use a water and vinegar mixture.
Pastured chicken is exponentially more nutritious and beneficial than conventionally raised chicken. It has more good fat and less bad fat. It also contributes to a healthy immune system.

Many people don't realize that the FDA requires butchers to spray raw meat with citric acid to slow the growth of bacteria on meat that naturally occurs. The citric used does not come from natural citrus fruits. Instead, it is manufactured using a fermentation process that includes a mold that eats the sugar of corn. Citric acid is the byproduct of the fermentation process. Instead of citric acid, our FDA approved butcher uses an organic apple cider vinegar and water spray.
